Yang Ming Marine Transport Corp. ("Yang Ming") announced on the 28th its acquisition of three 8,000 TEU methanol dual-fuel container vessels from Shoei Kisen Kaisha, Ltd., as part of its fleet optimization strategy. Built by Imabari Shipbuilding, the ships are scheduled for delivery between 2028 and 2029. This move will enhance Yang Ming's global service network and reinforce its commitment to providing customers with reliable and sustainable shipping solutions.
Fleet Expansion Plan Approved
To support business growth and maintain core competitiveness, Yang Ming's proposal to add 13 container ships ranging from 8,000 to 15,000 TEU was approved during its 400th board meeting. The three 8,000 TEU vessels currently under construction mark the first phase of this plan. The remaining ships will be procured following internal procedures to ensure fleet stability and service quality in the medium to long term.
The new vessels will feature high-efficiency engines for immediate fuel savings while retaining flexibility for future alternative fuel adoption.
