Recently, DP World London Gateway welcomed its first vessel under the new agreement with Gemini Cooperation.
The Maersk Stadelhorn is the first ship under the Gemini Cooperation to call at London Gateway. The vessel is deployed on the ME2/EX India-Europe route, departing from the UK and calling at ports such as Hamburg, Tanger Med, Colombo, Kamarajar, Algeciras, and Rotterdam.
Gemini was established to improve efficiency on East-West shipping routes, and its latest report states that service reliability reached 90% in its first month of operation. Once fully operational, Gemini will run 57 routes worldwide, with a total capacity of 3.7 million TEU — nearly 12% of the global container shipping capacity.
Ernst Schulze, UK Ports and Terminals Director at DP World Northern Europe, commented:
“The arrival of the Maersk Stadelhorn is a testament to Gemini’s confidence in DP World’s UK container terminals and global supply chain solutions network. The Asia-Europe route will strengthen London Gateway’s key international trade lanes, supporting our ambition to develop this logistics hub into the UK’s largest container port within the next five years.”
Gary Jeffreys, Managing Director of Maersk UK & Ireland, added:
“It’s fantastic to witness our new network go live in the UK, with London Gateway playing a key role in the services we offer our customers. With a reliable, flexible, and more agile ocean network, we’ll be better positioned to meet the future demands of global supply chains.”
Last month, DP World Southampton welcomed its first Gemini vessel, the V Leonidio.
