The Port of Los Angeles reported a total container throughput of 884,315 TEUs in November 2024, marking a 16% increase compared to the same period last year. Over the first 11 months of 2024, the port handled 9,375,735 TEUs, a 19% rise year-over-year.
These figures reflect significant progress toward the historic goal of achieving 10 million TEUs in a single year.
At a recent press briefing, Scott Kelly, Vice President of Ocean Services for the Americas at Expeditors International, and Gene Seroka, Executive Director of the Port of Los Angeles, discussed topics including tariffs, labor challenges on the East Coast and Gulf regions, and the vital role logistics companies like Expeditors play in the global supply chain.
“We are on track to surpass 10 million TEUs for only the second time in our 117-year history—a remarkable milestone,” said Seroka. “This achievement is thanks to the collective efforts of our partners: the ILWU workforce, the trucking community, terminal operators, and rail partners. Their dedication drives the ongoing success of the Port of Los Angeles.”
In November, the port handled 458,165 TEUs in imports, up 19%, and 124,117 TEUs in exports, an 11% increase. Additionally, the port processed 302,033 empty containers, representing a 13% year-over-year rise.
This surge underscores the growing importance of the Port of Los Angeles in global trade and establishes a strong foundation for its historic breakthrough in 2024.
