Following the announcement by Japan’s Ocean Network Express (ONE) to collaborate with Ocean Alliance carriers on three transatlantic services, industry sources have further confirmed that Ocean and Premier Alliances will jointly operate a transatlantic service network starting next year.
Analysts from liner database eeSea noted that this network adjustment signifies a reform of the current transatlantic services operated by THE Alliance, which will be replaced by Premier Alliance in early February next year.
The AL5 service, a transatlantic route focusing on the southern United States and the Caribbean via the Panama Canal to the U.S. West Coast, is currently part of THE Alliance. However, it will operate without alliance partners. Based on initial indications, HMM and OOCL will join ONE, marketing the route as HMM TA1 and OOCL ATW, respectively.
Key changes to the route include the removal of Canadian calls, specifically two Halifax calls and one Saint John call. The service will also replace a call at Port Everglades with Miami and discontinue its Cartagena call. Meanwhile, a CMA CGM advisory confirmed that the French carrier would also deploy capacity on this service, suggesting that at least two Ocean Alliance carriers will operate on the former alliance service starting next year.
Additionally, eeSea analysts confirmed that ONE will join Ocean Alliance’s TAT2 transatlantic service. By 2025, Savannah and Charleston will be replaced by Baltimore in the rotation. CMA CGM noted that this service will call at its terminal in New York and Norfolk Port as well.
For the TAT2 service, ONE confirmed collaboration with OOCL and CMA CGM, with the Vessel Sharing Agreement (VSA) potentially expanding to include other Ocean Alliance members in the coming weeks.
Similarly, with ONE joining the TAT3 service, it will market the service as TA3. eeSea analysts anticipate that Le Havre, Charleston, and Miami will be removed from the rotation by 2025, Southampton will be added as the first call, and Antwerp and Rotterdam will swap positions in the rotation.
