According to brokers' reports, the intra-Asia specialist has ordered two 8,700-TEU container ships from HD Hyundai Samho, with each vessel priced at $115.3 million. HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering, the parent entity of HD Hyundai shipyards, revealed that the ships are scheduled for delivery in January and March of 2027.
KMTC is currently ranked 17th on Alphaliner, operating a fleet of over 60 container ships.
Industry sources indicate that KMTC's last significant order was for a series of 2,556-TEU vessels in 2019. The largest ship currently in its fleet is approximately 6,650 TEUs.
As a leading South Korean shipping company, KMTC continues to expand its global business network. This year, KMTC is likely to further strengthen its presence in regions such as the Far East, Southeast Asia, South Asia, West Asia, and the Middle East, increasing its market share. The company has made significant progress in new ship orders while also advancing in service optimization, technological innovation, and market strategy adjustments. These efforts aim to enhance KMTC’s global competitiveness and provide higher-quality services to its customers.
