On November 10, the “Maersk Halifax” from Maersk’s South America route docked at Qingdao Port’s Qianwan Terminal, marking the arrival of the world’s first methanol dual-fuel “10,000-TEU class” container ship at Shandong Port Qingdao.

The “Maersk Halifax” (IMO 9784271, MMSI 563030500) is a container ship built in 2017 (7 years old), currently sailing under the Singapore flag. It is 367 meters long, 53.5 meters wide, and has a full load capacity of 14,000 TEUs.

At Qingdao Port, the “Maersk Halifax” is scheduled to load 5,532 standard containers for export. The ship underwent a three-month retrofit starting in July this year, converting the existing large container ship into a green methanol-powered vessel. Additionally, it is equipped with a shore power system, enabling energy supply from shore-based electricity while docked.

According to AIS data, the ship is currently en route to Busan Port in South Korea at a speed of 18.8 knots and is expected to arrive on November 12.

Since October, Qingdao Port has successively launched several international container routes, achieving a new annual record for the most routes inaugurated in a single month.

On October 18, Pacific International Lines launched a Middle East route at Qingdao Port’s QQCT Terminal.

On October 24, T.S. Lines introduced a Southeast Asia route at Qingdao Port.

On October 29, DTS Line launched a Central Africa route.

The addition of these new routes not only enriches Qingdao Port’s international route network but also further solidifies its status as a global shipping hub.

According to data from the Ministry of Transport, Qingdao Port handled 24.13 million TEUs from January to September this year, an 8.0% year-on-year increase.
